Corporate Partnership

In 1999, Cortex entered into a collaborative research and licensing Agreement with NV Organon (Organon), the pharmaceutical business unit of Akzo Nobel.  Organon was granted the exclusive worldwide rights to develop AMPAKINE compounds for the treatment of schizophrenia and depression. Two AMPAKINE compounds are currently in Phase II, Org24448 and Org26576 for the treatment of schizophrenia, depression and ADHD.  In November 2007, Organon was acquired by Schering-Plough Corp. Cortex will receive developmental milestone payments and royalties if these products are commercialized.

In 1999, Cortex entered into a collaborative research agreement with Les Laboratories Servier to develop Ampakine compounds for the treatment of various neurodegenerative diseases. This collaboration was terminated five years later. Servier selected three compounds for clinical development in their Territories; should any of these three compounds be successful in reaching the market, Cortex will receive developmental and regulatory milestone payments and reasonable royalties on sales of such product(s). Cortex can also develop these products in North America, Mexico and most of South America plus other counties with smaller market potential.  In addition, Cortex regained the worldwide rights for the use of all new AMPAKINE compounds for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, which can be partners with no restrictions.
